Stotsky Professorship
The Stotsky Professor in Jewish Historical and Cultural Studies was established at Northeastern University in 1991 as a result of a generous gift from Dr. Bernard A. Stotsky.
The professorship is intended to support a faculty member in the College of Arts and Sciences who pursues research on broad ethical, cultural and social issues arising out of the suffering and heroism of the Holocaust, as well as to encourage new approaches to the problem of social justice and modern Judaism.
The Stotsky Professorship is currently held by Dr. Inez Hedges. Dr. Hedges is working on a project entitled "Fractured Frames: Holocaust and Representation."
In this work, she interrogates the ways the various arts have had to break out of their conventional modes of representation in order to memorialize the unimaginable -- the Holocaust. In a series of lectures, film screenings, performances, and a conference, she will draw on artistic expression in the fields of literature, philosophy, film, music, theater, and art. Invited speakers will include both artists and scholars.
Previous holders of the Stotsky Professorship include Professor James Rodman Ross, Professor Joshua R. Jacobson and Professor Bill Miles
