Curriculum

The Jewish Studies program offers several different directed courses of study.

The Dual Major in Jewish Studies and Religion

This option is designed for students looking for in-depth knowledge of Jewish Studies and interested in comparative religion. The Dual Major is ideal for students interested in graduate work in Jewish Studies or Religious Studies, or in careers as rabbis, cantors, or Jewish educators.

The Jewish Studies Minor

The Jewish Studies Minor is perfect for students who wish to combine their interest in Jewish Studies with work in a different area. A unique feature of this track is the Jewish Studies Module, a one-credit course required of Minors, in which students integrate their work in Jewish Studies into their major field. The Jewish Studies Minor provides an excellent broad-based introduction to the history, religion, and culture of the Jewish people.

Partnership with Human Services Major

Students who are interested in the field of Human Services can purse the specialization in Social Justice, Identity, and Religion within the Human Services Major. This option is well suited for those interested in careers in Jewish Communal Services.

Independent Major in Jewish Studies

The Jewish Studies faculty is happy to work with highly motivated students who wish to propose an Independent Major in Jewish Studies. If you are interested in this option, please contact Dr. Jennifer Sartori to discuss your ideas. More information on proposing independent majors can be found on the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies website or by contacting Ann Grenell at a.grenell@neu.edu or 617-373-2427.
